Context

Open Banking is an initiative aimed at creating a system that allows individuals to securely share their financial data, with explicit consent and their management, with authorized third-party providers through APIs to personalize the value proposition.

My Job:

My responsibility was guiding cross-functional teams through the end-to-end process to design an approachable and reliable experience that allows users to grant and manage their consent easily, ensuring consistency and trust.

Problem Area

Design an ecosystem that wasn't demanded by users in a unstable ground

The Approach to bring clarity to the way

Materialize the MVP to tackle the frictions

Once we organized internally, we concentrated on bringing the product vision to life by mapping the end- to-end experience, including strategies to provide a seamless experience.

  • Educated guide users about open finance with friendly concepts through the End-to-end experience to generate reliability and transparency.

  • Empower users to manage their personal data through the platform.

  • Creating an intuitive information architecture to differentiate the several ways to manage their consents and personal data.

Approach to designing the screen to approve the consent

As third-party providers that want to participate in the open finance framework to consume data from Bancolombia, we created a reusable and flexible widget screen for the design system to grant consent of users in line with the regulation framework.

Approach to design the bilateral consent management

A seamless navigation in favor of managing each need while providing documentation

As users could manage their personal data to be reached out to the bank, their use of cookies and consents with third-party providers (consent to share data with external and the opposite way). We must craft an intuitive architecture to differentiate these ways.

Impact & final result

An intuitive hub where the user can have total control of their Open Finances with other entities through Bancolombia to feel safe and comfortable sharing their data without fine print.

Reflection & Takeaways

Reflection & Takeaways

  • When navigating complex regulatory frameworks, the most effective approach is to engage deeply and understand them from multiple strategic angles. That way, the innovative solutions to translate into a seamless experience emerge organically from within the constraints.

  • When teams operate in silos, UX methodologies serve as a vital bridge to unify disparate workflows. By facilitating cross-functional collaboration, we can identify hidden synergies and realign collective efforts toward a cohesive, shared objective.

  • Embracing regulatory volatility has taught us to remain agile, relearning and iterating in real-time. By building workflows rooted in validated assumptions, we can pivot both design and business strategies with the speed and precision required in today’s market.
